Stress Sensors for Home Alarms
Stress sensors (Pulsors) manufactured by Sure Action offer complete
security protection for home alarms / residential security systems.
Stress sensors offer stable, reliable security coverage for the home.
Stress sensors are invisible. They mount on the beams under the
floor boards and respond to minute flexes in the flooring.
Pulsor stress sensors are effective on almost any type of flooring.
Environmentally-sealed and wired with marine-grade 22-gauge wire leads, Sure
Action stress sensors provide optimum results for both indoor and outdoor
home security applications.
- Processors - Needed for ENHP+ or HPP+
(Outdoor Applications such as roof or deck)
MG111 or MG313 Processor. The MG111 Processor has one zone. The
MG313 has
three zones. Up to 4 stress sensors can be wired per zone.

Action stress sensors (Pulsors).
Stress Sensors for Home Alarms
When security installers first
consider using Sure Action stress sensors in home alarm systems, they often
overestimate the number of sensors they will need to use. To
provide optimal security protection, installers do not need to cover every
inch of flooring in a home. Instead, they need to select key locations
where an intruder is most likely to walk and trip the alarm.
How Do Sure Action Stress Sensors Work?
As
mentioned above, for home alarm systems, stress sensors are epoxied to the bottom-edge of a support
beam or truss. The sensors detect even the slightest movement in the
beam and trigger the processor, which in turn alerts the alarm control.
The area covered by each sensor is adjustable by zone. Sure Action
stress sensors provide an oval of protection approximately 7' down and 4'
across. The 7'x4' oval is the standard setting for security
applications.
How to
Design a Home Alarm System using Stress Sensors?
When deciding
how to design a Pulsor alarm system, you need to consider several points.
- Is the home an existing building or new construction?
- Does the home have one or more floors?
- Do the owners want the ability to set the security alarm while they are
sleeping or not?
- Are the owners concerned with basic security coverage or are they
looking for a higher level of protection for their home?
No matter how many floors in a home, the first floor is the most
important to alarm. A thief will almost always enter a home by the most inconspicuous and easiest route. When
planning a stress sensor home alarm system, start by choosing that places
where people most often walk -- heavy
traffic locations, at the foot of staircases, and hallways.
Next, place a sensor in front of each critical outside door. The
Pulsor does not have to be right up against the door. Rather, an alarm
installer should place it so the outer edge of the 7' x 4' oval meets the
door.
Pulsors for New Home Construction
If the home is
new construction, Sure Action stress sensors easily address security issues
on any floor. Locate the Pulsors near critical outside doors and in high traffic
areas. Stress sensors mounted on first floor beams are epoxied
underneath the beam. Sure Action Pulsors mounted on 2nd floor beams
and above mount on the side of the beam. See Sure Action's technical
manuals for installation details.
Sure Action Stress Sensors in Existing Homes
For
existing homes, again locate Pulsors near critical doors and in high traffic
areas on the first floor to provide optimum security protection. Above
the first floor, alarm installers need to decide where the ideal
locations for stress sensor installation are -- high traffic spots, top of
stairway, doors leading to outside decks, etc.). The installer
then locates inconspicuous
locations on the floor downstairs (such as closets or air ducts) that are
close to the spots where the installer would like to place the stress sensor
and from where the installer can snake wire for the sensor. The
security installer than finds the beam in that location, carefully cuts
into the ceiling of the 1st floor location at the joist, and mounts the
Pulsor on the side of the beam. When running the wire for the stress
sensor, also run fire wire for a heat/smoke detector. When possible,
leave the opening in the ceiling and conceal it with the
smoke or heat detector. When installing sensors for the second
floor and above, stress sensor placement may not be exactly where the
installer would like it, but the sensors can be placed to provide the
security coverage a homeowner needs.
How Many Sure
Action Stress Sensors Are Needed for Home Alarms?
For homes
under 3,000 feet, only 4 to 8 stress sensors are typically needed per floor.

Sure Action Pulsors Benefit Homeowners
In the end, as security professionals, the goal remains to
meet (or exceed) the customer's expectations while remaining in budget.
Pulsors provide benefits homeowner's enjoy.
- Invisible. Sure Action Pulsor motion detectors are
inconspicuous. Because the sensors mount under the floor boards,
hey are not easily detectable and they never get in the way of the
homeowner's decor or furniture arrangements.
- Pet-friendly. The sensitivity of the Pulsor can be
adjusted so it will detect a small adult but will not pick up a larger
animal (up to 80 lbs.) Plus, cats can jump from furniture and
counters without affecting the security system.
- User-friendly. A Sure Action stress sensor system can
be set "on the run". While security is strongest when a home is
locked, homeowners using Sure Action's Pulsors can leave windows and
doors unlocked and still feel comfortable knowing their home is secure.
Since the sensors are mounted under the floor, the home can be
guarded regardless of windows and/or doors left unlocked and even
open. PLUS, as an additional benefit, a Sure Action Pulsor
security system can be zoned so families can set the security system at
night while they sleep.
- Dependable. As long as a security installer installs
a Sure Action stress sensor system according to manufacturer's
instructions, the sensors will last for years with virtually no false
alarms and minimal maintenance.
